“The clients are appreciative, kind, and intelligent, struggling to make ends meet. Some work three jobs and still fall below the poverty line, some are fleeing a violent situation and unsure of what steps to take next.
As a volunteer with the Project, … I see the need this group fills in our community, making sure everyone has legal representation, despite income or ability.
The Pro Bono Project provides new attorneys like me with a stepping stone, a transitional place, to move them into the legal community with greater practical experience, confidence, and a true sense of just how vital a role an attorney plays in society.”
"I finally got an attorney who got my kids back for me! Thank you for everything."
Pro Bono Project Client
"I learned the value of doing pro bono work and realized that it was what I liked most about becoming a lawyer."
If you can spare even a couple of hours, you can help our clients. If you don’t have time to manage an entire case, you can represent a client at one hearing, or be a lawyer in the library for two hours on a Monday evening.
Volunteers benefit, too!
Besides the satisfaction of helping our clients, attorneys fulfill their obligation to provide pro bono counsel to citizens who need it.
Law students gain experience working directly with clients on real-world legal issues. And volunteers get discounts on our valuable training courses. Spend two evenings advising clients in the library or accept a Pro Bono case, and get a substantial discount on one of our MCLE courses.
