Domestic Violence: One Day Seminar

This one day seminar is intended for those who are new to domestic violence restraining orders and/or new to the practice of family law, as well as for more experienced domestic violence attorneys. The training will cover a variety of legal topics, both basic and advanced, that arise in the representation of Petitioner’s and Respondents in DV matters.

Topics will include:

  • What lawyers need to know in order to provide trauma informed services
  • Preparing the forms and declarations necessary to obtain a restraining order
  • Appropriate custody/vistiation schedules for children in domestic violence situations
  • Using evidence in domestic violence cases.
  • Conducting opening and closing arguments
  • Profession responsibility and safety planning
  • Internet abuse, including issues with e-evidence
  • Consumer remedies for economic abuse


Introduction to Family Law

Date To Be Determined

Judges, commissioners, family law specialists and court personnel will lead you through 2 1/2 days of the procedural and substantive aspects of family law. This class is good for Lawyers in the Library volunteers or those new to family law.


Guardianship Training

Date To Be Determined

Attorneys and court personnel will lead you through the procedural and substantive aspects of guardianship law. The class is good for attorneys wanting to learn to represent clients in Santa Clara County Probate Court guardianship matters.

Making a Difference

“Howard” cut his right thumb on the job, and required surgery the same day. Since then, he has required two more surgeries and still requires rehabilitation therapy. Howard is unable to work because of his injury, and his employer has no insurance to cover his medical costs. His medical bills are more than $10,000, and have been referred to a collection agency.
